Harmonies of the Lazio coast
Behind the moden appearance of the places touched by the route, there is actually a centuries-old history. Ladispoli, Cerveteri and Santa Severa are villages that represent a perfect union between past and present, offering their visitors a rich cultural panorama within which tradition coexists harmoniously with the needs of moden tourism.
The Lazio coast immediately north of Rome is a concentration of beaches, castles and seaside villages. This itinerary is perfect for those who, with a jouney of a few kilometers, want to have the opportunity to escape the chaos of the city of Rome and be surprised by the beauty of apparently secondary destinations.
The proposed itinerary follows the Aurelia and is 60 km long, and starting from Santa Severa will give you the opportunity to touch the town of Cerveteri and end in Ladispoli. The coast that you can discover will not offer steep views or breathtaking cliffs overlooking the sea because it is characterized by a sweet and harmonious profile, which will conquer you thanks to the peculiarity of the landscapes.
The route with a small incursion inland will offer the possibility of making very interesting excursions into the history and archaeology of the most famous and interesting pre-Roman population: the Etruscans. These skilled navigators have populated this territory for a long time and their traces are visible not only thanks to the wonderful necropolises but also thanks to the ports and areas of the sanctuaries that directly overlooked the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Santa Severa

Santa Severa is a jewel set on the coast. Naturally, a visit to the Renaissance manor will take you through the discovery of such a beautiful place that has been characterized by a continuity of life attested uninterruptedly from the Bronze Age to the present day. For those who need a break from history and archaeology, there will be the opportunity to discover the Macchia Tonda nature reserve, where thanks to various bird watching stations it will also be possible to admire rare species of birds.

Ladispoli
Duration: 2 hours
Continuing along the Via Aurelia, before even reaching the center of Ladispoli, it will be possible to visit the Roman villa of Marina di San Nicola, built in the 1st century BC. The ruins of the structure are located at the end of a splendid cycle-pedestrian path that runs along the very particular black beaches that characterize this stretch of coast. Just get back on the Aurelia to have the possibility in a few kilometers to reach the fortified farmhouse of Castellaccio di Monteroni as well as the Necropolis located in the same location. The sites of interest that you will reach following the coast to the center of Ladispoli will not fail to tell the clearly visible history of both the Etruscans, the Romans and up to the families of the Roman nobility of the Renaissance.

Cerveteri
Duration: 5 hours
Continuing along the Aurelia you can easily reach Cerveteri. Although the space to be covered is short, the wealth of proposals available is astonishing. You can choose to stay on the coast to explore the Torre Flavia nature reserve or choose to venture into the intenal routes that wind through the most beautiful Etruscan necropolises of Lazio. An equally fascinating altenative is to directly reach the medieval villages of Ceri and Cerveteri. Finally, you have the opportunity to visit the Cerite National Archaeological Museum, which houses precious finds, some of which have retuned to Italy in very recent times.
