An enchanted place between clear waters and lush vegetation
The Castel Giuliano waterfalls are one of the most beautiful and uncontaminated natural sites in the Cerveteri area. They are perfect for walks, hikes, bike rides and picnics. Proceeding beyond the Banditaccia Necropolis, you can leave your car at the cemetery parking lot and proceed along the dirt road that enters the woods. The overall difference in altitude to be faced during the route will be approximately 360 m.
Crossing the woods marked by tuff walls will certainly help us understand the reason that drove the Etruscans to found one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean in Caere. The landscape that the excursion to the San Giuliano waterfalls will allow us to admire will be surprising and new at every step. To reach the destination it will be possible to admire the Porta Coperta, an ancient Etruscan gate made of square blocks of tuff. Proceeding it will be possible to cross the Fosso della Mola to reach the ironworks. This is an ancient oven of the Papal State in use in the seventeenth century. From this point the series of waterfalls begins: the first of the Vaccinello, the second of the Anerile to reach the one called Braccio di mare. Finally, proceeding along the path to the right it will be possible to reach the Castel Giuliano waterfall whose waters after the jump arrive in a small lake where it will be possible to stop to admire the beauty of the place. To be able to admire the waterfalls from above it will be possible to go back a little on the path and tun left, to reach a ruined bridge, which will provide an excellent observation point. By retracing the route backwards it will be possible to retun to the parking lot at the cemetery
