Luxury past and present
Paul Getty's splendid residence, built in a park characterised by the presence of precious and majestic trees, preserves parts of a Roman-era residential structure that can only be visited through the organisation of volunteers from the Cerite territory Archaeological Group.
In the area of the Old Post Office, east of the Palo Castle, in the basement and in the area immediately surrounding the seventeenth-century building, an ancient post station, the remains of numerous structures are preserved. They were discovered in 1966 during the renovation of the complex, at the time the residence of the billionaire Paul Getty. Of particular value are the splendid polychrome mosaics from the late-ancient period. In the rooms accessible during visits organized by volunteers, a small educational antiquarium has been created thanks to which it is possible to relive the history of the villa and the nearby colony of Alsium.
