Waterfall surrounded by an uncontaminated landscape
The Diosilla waterfalls are located inside the Canale Monterano Nature Reserve. They are easily accessible thanks to the presence of a convenient parking lot located at the beginning of the path that reaches them.
The path to reach the Diosilla waterfalls is beaten and well marked. The route winds through the gorge carved out by the Bicione torrent. This small stream and the waterfalls are characterized by the rusty color of the water. This color is due to the high presence of iron, which is abundant in the rocks in the area. In some places, the presence of very bright colors also stands out, such as blue, due to the presence of manganese in the rocks. Furthermore, along the Bicione, it is possible to notice the presence of a white foam, which is not caused by human pollution, but in this case derives from the presence of sulfur in the rocks. After crossing a series of small bridges, you reach the river characterized by a very strong smell of sulfur. You can decide to continue following the path that runs alongside ancient abandoned sulfur quarries until you calmly reach the Etruscan cut called Cavone thanks to which you can enter the ancient town of Canale Monterano.
