Lake Bracciano preserves uncontaminated landscapes, often a destination for Romans during the holidays. All around its perimeter there is a panoramic road thanks to which it is possible to admire the lake and its villages. Its circular shape corresponds to a volcanic crater active about a million and a half years ago, which was part of the volcanic system called "sabatino". At the end of the eruptions the craters filled with water forming four lakes. Of these, only Bracciano and Martignano still exist
The clear waters are one of the main features of the lake, which also make it an excellent destination for bathing and recreational activities such as sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. The particular purity of the water has been known since Roman times, given its use for drinking purposes consolidated over the centuries. In fact, the waters of the lake are marginally affected by moden pollution since the main source of supply is made up of large underground water springs, while the contribution brought by the small tributary ditches is very limited. The lake still feeds the Traiano-Paolino aqueduct, which serves the Roman districts of Trastevere and Borgo. Lake Bracciano and Lake Martignano are part of the Regional Natural Park, which includes both the municipalities overlooking the bodies of water and the wooded areas. The park is animated by a dense network of paths, thanks to which it is possible to explore both by bicycle and on foot the meadows, grazing areas and clearings that offer multiple panoramic views of the lakes.
